A Big Two Weeks

Hello! I missed a week and I’m unbothered (which I think is progress on my brain in the grand scheme of it all.)

It was a very busy week last week with all things Nintendo Switch 2. A second Nintendo console that has a big two on it! I played it, I touched it, I put my grubby little fingies all over it for like eight hours and you can read all of my thoughts and feelings about that stuff below.

This week is going to be mostly games stuff (sorry non games folks) but also stay till the end for some funny videos.

Before that though, here’s a really funny image of Mario that Nintendo had on a large monitor. I don’t know why it was so tiny, but it stayed like that all throughout the day. I’ve heard that it was changed before the public got to see it.

Travel Season

It’s about that time of the year for Pax East, Summer Game Fest, and any other travel bits I do during the year. I think traveling has gotten more exciting the older I get. Not because I’m going to cooler and cooler places (it’s mostly just downtown Los Angeles, the worst place on the planet) but because I have far more agency over who i get to spend time with on these trips.

While it’s mostly industry folks that I don’t get to see that often, it is nice to kickback on a rooftop pool somewhere with a few drinks and catch up. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there at all of the work trips coming up, and if you wanna meetup! Lemme know and we can schedule some time.

Blue Prince is a play on Blueprints

Blue Prince is the current game that is sweeping everyone’s time up. A puzzle game mixed with Roguelike elements about building a series of rooms in an inherited mansion form your late uncle. The puzzle elements run way deeper than anything you can imagine and I find myself scrawling notes at 2am like some sort of mad man. Flipping through pages I wrote in a hurry hours ago.

All I’ve done is think about Blue Prince when I’m not playing it and continuing to push myself further down the rabbit hole. Dming folks playing asking cryptic questions to see if they have seen what I’ve seen. Needing to know answers to questions I don’t have yet. It’s a game that occupies every second of my free brain space, and something that I know isn’t for everyone, but it’s for me and that’s enough.

Now that it’s officially released, a bunch of new people are discovering the depths Blue Prince has to offer, but they are also experiencing a lot of the early hurdles, the things that block them from feeling progress. It’s difficult to convey that Blue Prince is a game about small moments strung along a path hoping to capture you up alongside them.

Not every game is for everyone, and that’s ok, but Blue Prince is the game I needed right now, and I’m happy to have my community of friends playing alongside me to share stories, tips, and take apart this mechanical box together.

I often describe the game Outer Wilds as a perfectly crafted watch, all of the gears ticking along in harmony as they systems unfold in front of you. Blue Prince works in a similar fashion, but it’s not exactly a 1:1. It’s hard to describe fully without giving away too much, but if you’re interested in games where knowledge is the ultimate tool of progression, Blue Prince is worth looking into.

Funny Videos

Ok I promised y’all some funny videos and I need to deliver on that.

My current new obsession is watching all of these people pop off during A Minecraft Movie and something called a “Chicken jockey” I know I’m the games guy in many circles of friends, but even i don’t really get it.

Also, before people get up in arms. I do not condone the shitty behavior in movie theaters, I do not condone making Theater goers lives hell or making more work for them. However, i also know when a video is fucking hilarious, and this shit is gold.
