A Late Edition

Hi hello welcome to the late edition of this newsletter that should have been out last week, but things happened and I wanted to hold off! We haven’t spoken since before my trip to Los Angeles for Summer Game Fest. So we have a lot to catch up on. It’s a late edition newsletter because of a late addition to the newsletter. Do you get it?

I Am Now Employed Full Time

I feel like the header says it all here. Really just gave up that one pretty easily I guess. So yeah, no mystery of “ooo what’s the late addition” This is the late addition. I was waiting to cross some T’s and dot some I’s so I could tell you, subscribers to my newsletter first. Y’all have been with me for a while now, and it only felt right to tell everyone here first. But, Jesse, what is this job? What stupid fucking company could have possibly hired your tired ass? That’s a great question.

I’m now an Associate Editor at Restart.Run baby. I’ll still be handling our social content, I’ll still be writing at the website, and I’ll even being doing some bigger and cooler things next month that I can’t talk about publicly just yet. So get excited, and any of the many PR people who signed up for this newsletter, get in touch, I’ve got a new email to work with.

Thank you to everyone who really stayed with me over the last year and a half while I figured my shit out. It was a long road, a difficult one, and one that required more support than I ever deserved. So thanks for being real ones.

Summer Game Fest

I spent roughly week in Lod Angeles earlier this month. I saw some video games. You can read about them over at Restart, but for me it’s more about seeing friends, checking in on them, and doing dumb bits.

More importantly this year the day before the event, massive ICE raids took place in LA, just a few short blocks away from the space. You’ve clearly seen the news of police and militaristic violence against protesters. A clear cut attempt at silencing voices and letting the government rule through military power. It’s hard to care about video game preview appointments when the world around you is begging for support. So it was a weird trip, but one that I used my spare time to try and support friends and loved ones afraid to be in the area, international friends who needed someone to lean on, and a shared passion for trying to make this world a better place.

Fuck ICE. It’s a simple as that. I’ve never made my beliefs quiet, so if you’re shocked by this statement I don’t know how the hell you got here man.

The Mustard Arc

I don’t really know how to explain to my friends how I witnessed my 41 year old friend try mustard for the first time in his life. Luckily I don’t have to. Now, I know a lot of you don’t watch the links I put in here. (I have the datasets of who clicks this shit) but honestly this is worth the 12 minutes of your time if you’ve ever questioned exactly what goes on during any of these trips. Please, I beg you, I need y’all to understand.

Death Stranding 2

Hi hello, I played and reviewed the big new game. I mostly don’t like it. I wrestled with that for 2,000 words here. I’m really proud of it and would also like you to read it. You especially should because so many random people on the internet told me to kill myself over it. Like a lot!! Which means I pissed off the right type of people with it.

Ok that’s probably enough for one week. A lot of things happening, but 2 things I wanna shoutout before I go. It was my friend Negri’s birthday this week.
